Tomaso Baldessarini is a Berlin-based photographer working across fine art, editorial, and commercial portraiture. With a background in large- and medium-format photography, he is known for creating images that combine precision, atmosphere, and emotional depth.

His work is defined by a strong sensitivity to light, detail, and post-production, always with a focus on human presence and authenticity. Alongside individual commissions and portrait series, Baldessarini develops long-term visual projects that merge photography and film to create layered, narrative-driven work.

Over the past years, his work has received multiple international awards. In November 2017, he was appointed EIZO Global Ambassador, reflecting both his technical expertise and his commitment to high creative standards.

Artist Statement

My work is rooted in portraiture as a way of exploring presence, identity, and atmosphere. I am interested in the tension between what is visible and what remains unspoken — the subtle expressions, gestures, and moments that reveal something deeper about a person beyond surface appearance.

Working with large- and medium-format photography as well as more immediate, candid forms of portraiture, I aim to create images that feel both precise and emotionally open. Light, stillness, texture, and post-production are not separate tools to me, but part of a single process of shaping mood and intensity.

Beyond individual photographs, I am drawn to long-term projects that connect portraiture with film and narrative. These works allow me to move beyond isolated images and build more complex, layered forms of storytelling. At the center of my practice is the attempt to create portraits that do not simply describe people, but invite a closer and more lasting encounter with them
